Bodie was an infamous mining town. It was as wicked as any mining town. Lawlessness, brothels and murder were all daily occurrences at Bodie. This led to a young girl to say Good-Bye God. I am going to Bodie. Some say she actually said it as more of an affirmation. Good! Bye God, I am going to Bodie.
What ever the young girl’s quote originally meant, it has lasted as long as Bodie itself. Bodie is said to be in an arrested state of decay. Owned by the California Park System you can visit what is easily the biggest Ghost Town anyway in the U.S. I recall reading somewhere that there are more than 200 structures left in Bodie. Many more where ravaged by fire in 1932, but there are still some spectacular buildings left. Some of these buildings are becoming iconic symbols of Bodie.
As a photographer who enjoys photographing Ghost Towns and rural decay in general, many of these buildings are on my list. By list of course I refer to my photographer’s must have list. Many photographers are collectors at heart. We have all sorts of must have shots. Bodie has been on my list for years now. Check.
I will be posting a gallery here after I visit again tomorrow, but for now CLICK HERE for more of my Bodie images.
