The photography and musings of a photographer from Michigan.

Every year I have the best intentions of getting up to the UP to do a fall color tour. It works out the same every time. I want to go to the Porcupine Mountains for a week. By the time the 2nd week of October gets here I never have a full week of vacation left. This year is no different, but in a last ditch effort to photograph some fall colors in the UP I headed toward Munising.
I stopped at Bob’s house at 4:30 AM on Friday, and to my surprise Bob was actually ready to go. By around 10:00 AM we were looking for a hotel in Munising. The weather didn’t really cooperate with us, but we made the best of it. It was mostly cold and cloudly with some sun once in a while. We explored the Hiawatha National forest on Friday, and spent the day on Saturday going to Miner’s Beach and several local waterfalls. While we were at Miners Beach I met Andy Richards. Andy is a fellow photography from Michigan. You can visit his web site here.
Sunday morning came early and we packed the Jeep, and headed home, but first a quick stop at Fayette Satet Historical Park. We get there before sunrise, and I was able to get a couple of decent shots before it got really cold and windy.
My gallery from this weekend can be found here.

  1. Andy Richards Said,

Richard. Thanks so much for the link to my Photography Site. I enjoyed meeting you and Bob Saturday morning and again, briefly in the evening. While the light — as predicted — was a bust that evening, Sunday morning was a thing of splendor! I arrived at Mocassin Lake just before sunrise and got some pretty nice reflection shots across the lake. Looks like you guys got started really early, as that Fayette shot looks to be at sunrise! Best to you!

Thanks, Andy. It was nice meeting you in the U.P.
