I describe myself as a “sometimes photographer.” I photograph to satisfy my creative needs, and sometimes I use Photoshop to satisfy that need. I’ve been using photography as a creative outlet since high school, but it wasn’t until digital photography started coming of age that I started to build a body of work. I love the control that I have over the complete process. I print all of my own work. My images start out on location, but usually that is just the beginning. I do what I like. I guess that’s part of being self taught. I don’t have any preconceived paradigms about what a photographic image is supposed to be. In my mind it the possibilities are limitless. I don’t spend any of time quibbling or arguing about photography is. Is digital better than film? How much can you alter an image in Photoshop and still call it a photograph. Is one brand of a camera better than another? I don’t know the answers to these questions. In my mind it’s a fool’s errand to spend time trying to answer these questions. My philosophy is simple: here’s what I’ve created. Do you like it? -Richard
